Advanced Racing Coach
San Diego Yacht ClubThe San Diego Yacht Club is hiring an Advanced Racing Coach to support the continued growth of its advanced racing and high-performance sailing programs. This dynamic, full-time coaching position is a unique opportunity to develop top-level sailors at one of the nation’s premier yacht clubs.
SDYC’s Junior Program is experiencing record growth, with a deep roster of competitive sailors in C420, 29er, and ILCA classes. This position will primarily support the 29er and C420 programs, while experience in the ILCA fleet and/or team racing discipline are also highly desirable.
The Advanced Racing Coach will report to the Junior Sailing Program Director and work closely with the Head Coach and Assistant Junior Sailing Director, supported by a dedicated full-time maintenance team and highly engaged member volunteers.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Coaching & Program Development
Deliver high-level coaching to top junior sailors at the local, regional, and national levels.
Lead practices, clinics, and regatta coaching for advanced racing fleets.
Assist in designing and managing year-round advanced racing programs (ages 13–18).
Serve as a role model and leader within the junior sailing community.
Operations & Logistics
Support program administration, including seasonal registrations, rosters, and scheduling.
Coordinate regatta travel logistics with staff, families, and volunteers.
Manage race team billing, receipts, and expense tracking.
Staff Leadership
Uphold SDYC coaching standards and best practices.
Mentor and support coaching staff to ensure consistent, high-quality instruction.
Fleet & Equipment
Assist with maintenance and oversight of C420 and 29er fleets.
Collaborate with maintenance staff on repairs and preventative upkeep.
Communication & Outreach
Communicate effectively with sailors, parents, staff, and volunteers.
Support recruitment and sailor development pathways.
Contribute to program promotion through recaps, newsletters, and social media.

Compensation & Benefits
SDYC offers a competitive compensation package. The anticipated salary range for this position is $70,500 to $80,000 annually, based on experience, qualifications, and role alignment.
